SANBORN Vs. NEWMAN

Tomado de WM REVIEW (Twitter/X).

Recently, Bishop Sanborn's organisation published a video with some remarks about Cardinal Newman.

Out of loyalty to Newman, Leo XIII, St Pius X and others, let's look at these remarks and address the criticism made against this great man and Prince of the Holy Roman Church.

Bishop Sanborn referred to the famous comment made at the end of Newman's "Letter to the Duke of Norfolk", a book defending the papacy against he attacks of Gladstone. This book caused grumblings amidst a small faction, but was seen as a great vindication at the time.

This book was an answer to a pamphlet by a very prominent Anglican. It is not perfect. It was not a treatise of theology. It is not Newman's fault that some moderns take it to be such.

In it, Newman lays out precisely the same doctrine of conscience that Bishop Sanborn accuses him of rejecting in favour of modernism.

Have those making such criticisms read the book in question?

As we shall see, it doesn't seem so.
